Betting Structures - Play More Online Poker

Learning about each Poker games betting structure is another important part of playing poker online, there are many different games with all manner of different betting structures so take a while to read the following as it will help you immensely in getting to grips with the wagering requirements.

Betting Structures - Fixed Limit

A Fixed Limit Poker game simply means that both the bet and also the raise amount for every round of the game are set at a preset amount.

You will see, for example, a $5/$10 Fixed game being offered by most Poker sites, what this means is that both the bet and all the raises in the first two rounds of the game must be $5 in total, and then the last two rounds the bet and raise amount is $10.

Betting Structures - Pot Limit

A Pot Limit game is even easier to understand and a maximum bet or raise cannot ever be more than the amount of money that in the Pot. For example if the pot has a whopping $50 in it then you cannot bet more than this $50.

To get a better understanding of this, if you have chosen to raise a players bet, you need to be aware that your call element is already in the pot, which means if the pot stands at $50 and your opponent places an open bet of $50 the maximum bet you can therefore place is $150.

Betting Structures - No Limit

The final type of betting structure is the No Limit variety, this is the big boy of the Poker world and many fortunes are both won and lost playing this type of Poker game.

In a No Limit game there are, as the name suggest, no limits to how much you can bet in any round of betting, so therefore playing this type of game is definitely not for the faint hearted!

Betting Structures - Terminology

Stakes - The stakes are always directly related to the game you have chosen to play. So in a Fixed Limit game the stakes will always be dictated by the bet and raise amount for each round.

Cap - When playing a Fixed Limit game, every round of betting will always have a bet that consists of a maximum number of raises which is three, this is known as the Cap. Therefore if a bet has been placed it can only ever be raised three times, after these raises all players must either call or fold their hand except when only two players are left in a game, in such circumstances the Cap is increased to five.

Blinds - These are simple compulsory wagers that two players must place to start a game, before any cards are dealt.
