Basic Rules of Poker - Play More Online Poker

The most popular poker game of all is Texas Hold'em, this game has intrigued poker players for years and it takes a lot of time and experience to master this amazing game.

You will not become a brilliant poker player over night, it takes years to slowly master the game, but the more you play the more you will understand the many different ways of playing it.

We have given you below a basic guide to the rules pertaining to all the popular poker variations, spend a little time reading these rules, as without a complete understanding you are a sitting duck when playing at a poker table.

Basic Rules of Poker - Texas Hold'em

The game is straight forward enough as each player will be dealt two face-down cards, these are often referred too as the Pocket Cards.

The Dealer will then deal out five cards into the middle of the poker table, these are called the Community Cards, these are always dealt face-up so every player can see them.

All of these Community Cards are available to every player to help them complete their particular poker hand. The aim is simply to make up the very best 5 card poker hand using any combination of your Pocket Cards and/or the Community Cards.

That's the Basics of Texas Hold'em, you can expect the game to be much more complicated than the basics above but that is the objective of the game.

Basic Rules of Poker - Omaha

Omaha Poker is a variation of poker that is played in a similar way to Texas Hold'em, however there is one major difference and that is the in the game of Omaha Poker each player gets dealt four face down cards as opposed to two in Hold'em.

Also at the final round of the game (called the Showdown) players have to use two of their cards plus three of the Community Cards.

The aim is still the same however and that is to make up the highest ranking 5 card poker hand.

Basic Rules of Poker - Omaha Hi/Lo

Omaha Hi/Lo is played more or less the same way as the Omaha Poker game above is, in as much as you get four Pocket Cards and Five Community Cards but there is a major difference in this variant which makes it a much more exciting Poker game to play.

The difference is that there are two winning hands at the final stage. The Pot will get evenly split between the Player with the Highest hand and the Player with the lowest hand!

Both hands must of course contain two of the Players Pocket Cards and to be classed as a low hand a hand must not contain a card higher than an eight. Aces may be played as either a High Card or a Low Card and that will mean the lowest hand is a A,2,3,4 and a 5.

Basic Rules of Poker - Seven Card Stud

One of the most established Poker games of all time is Seven Card Stud Poker and at one time or another everyone has played this game whether at home with your family or with friends.

It is also one of the easiest Poker games of all to learn and every Player will be dealt two cards which are face down and also they are dealt a face up card which is often known as the Door Card.

As the game progresses the Dealer will deal all players another three cards, these are always dealt face up along with one more face down card. The aim of the game as in most games of Poker is to complete the highest ranking Poker hand and by doing so you will win the pot.

Basic Rules of Poker - Five Card Stud

Five Card Stud is both simple to learn and even easier to play. Players are always dealt just one card which is placed face down and one card that is always placed face up.

After the first round of betting has been completed the Dealer will give each player another card, this he must deal face up. Then another round of betting takes place.

Two more rounds of both betting and players receiving another face up card are dealt and after everyone has placed a bet in the fourth round the Showdown will take place in which the player who has made up the best ranking 5 card Poker hand will win the Pot.
